Summary: Are you eager to hit the slopes in Armenia? Our detailed guide showcases the best places to ski in Armenia. From the most thrilling runs for avid skiers to welcoming family areas, and from dining options to additional leisure activities, we cover it all for the ultimate ski trip.

Armenia, with its stunning mountainous landscapes and cold winters, is becoming an increasingly popular destination for expats and digital nomads who have a passion for winter sports. The country offers a variety of ski resorts that cater to all levels of skiers and snowboarders, from beginners to experts. Whether you're looking for well-groomed pistes, challenging off-piste terrain, or simply a cozy mountain retreat, Armenia's ski areas provide a unique experience that combines ancient culture with modern winter sports facilities. Here are some of the best ski areas in Armenia that you should consider visiting during your stay.

Tsaghkadzor

Ability Level: All ability levels.
Location: Kotayk Province, around 50 km north of Yerevan.
Family Friendly: Yes

Tsaghkadzor, which translates to "valley of flowers," is the most popular ski resort in Armenia. It boasts well-maintained slopes, modern lifts, and facilities that cater to all levels of skiers and snowboarders. The resort is also a great destination for families, offering ski schools, equipment rentals, and a variety of accommodations. In the summer, Tsaghkadzor serves as a scenic retreat with opportunities for hiking and outdoor activities.

We Recommend: After a day on the slopes, visit the 'Famous Kalyan Lounge' in Tsaghkadzor for a warm and inviting atmosphere. They offer a selection of local and international dishes, as well as a variety of hookah flavors.

Jermuk

Ability Level: Beginner to intermediate.
Location: Vayots Dzor Province in southern Armenia.
Family Friendly: Yes

Jermuk is renowned for its therapeutic hot springs and beautiful landscapes, but it also has a modest ski area that's perfect for beginners and intermediate skiers. The resort is family-friendly, with gentle slopes and a relaxed atmosphere. Jermuk is also an ideal place to combine skiing with wellness, thanks to its numerous spas and health facilities.

We Recommend: Try the 'Jermuk Ashkharh' restaurant for traditional Armenian cuisine. Their dishes are made with fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, and the restaurant offers a cozy setting to unwind after a day in the snow.

Sevan

Ability Level: Beginner.
Location: Gegharkunik Province, near Lake Sevan.
Family Friendly: Yes

While Lake Sevan is more famous for its stunning summer scenery, the surrounding areas offer gentle slopes suitable for beginner skiers during the winter months. The ski area near Sevan is family-friendly and provides a unique opportunity to enjoy winter sports with a view of one of Armenia's most iconic landmarks, the high-altitude Lake Sevan.

We Recommend: 'Lavash Restaurant' by the lake is a great place to experience Armenian dining with a view. They serve a variety of Armenian and regional dishes, including the namesake lavash, a traditional soft, thin flatbread.

Vanadzor

Ability Level: Intermediate.
Location: Lori Province, in the northern part of Armenia.
Family Friendly: Yes

Vanadzor itself is not a ski resort, but it is close to several small ski areas that offer intermediate slopes and a quiet, local atmosphere. It's a great base for those looking to explore different skiing locations within the region, and the city offers a range of cultural and historical attractions as well.

We Recommend: 'Barbecue House' in Vanadzor is a favorite among locals for its delicious grilled meats and hearty side dishes. It's the perfect spot to satisfy your hunger after a day of skiing adventures.

Aragats

Ability Level: Intermediate to expert.
Location: At the foot of Mount Aragats, Armenia's highest peak.
Family Friendly: No

Mount Aragats provides some of the most challenging ski terrain in Armenia, with natural slopes that are best suited for experienced skiers and snowboarders. The area is less developed in terms of facilities, making it less family-friendly but ideal for those seeking adventure and off-piste excitement.

We Recommend: 'Karas National Food Chain' in the nearby town of Ashtarak offers a modern take on traditional Armenian dishes. Their menu features locally produced ingredients and a selection of Armenian wines.

Please note that the ski areas in Armenia may not be as extensive or well-known as those in Europe or North America, but they offer a unique charm and are worth exploring for those living in or visiting the country. Always check the current conditions and facilities before planning your trip, as they can vary from year to year.
