Shoreditch and Spitalfields are now increasingly upmarket and gentrified - the closer to Liverpool Street, the more this is happening. It is a natural evolution, but now some parts are positively wealthy. Of course this means housing will cost more. There are also shabby parts of the East End which are cheaper but also close to the centre of town. Do your homework, in my opinion this area is one of the most rapidly changing in London. I lived nearby (Hackney) four years ago - and parts of the old 'hood are virtually unrecognisable today.
