Summary: Learn about the health system in Belarus: how it can and cannot be used by expats, nomads, retirees and others moving to and living in Belarus.

Belarus has a public and private healthcare system, with both offering quality medical care. The public healthcare system is called the Belarusian Health Care System and is available to both citizens and foreigners. Expats and digital nomads are allowed to use the public healthcare system, although many opt for private healthcare due to the shorter wait times and more personalized care. Public hospitals are generally recommended for serious medical emergencies and major surgery, as they are well-equipped and staffed with experienced medical professionals.

Belarus's Public Healthcare System

The Belarusian Health Care System is the public healthcare system in Belarus. It is funded by the government and is available to both citizens and foreigners. The public healthcare system is free for citizens, but foreigners must pay a fee for services. The cost of public healthcare is generally lower than private healthcare, but the wait times are often longer.

Belarus's Private Healthcare System

Belarus also has a private healthcare system, which is used by many expats and digital nomads. Private healthcare is more expensive than public healthcare, but it offers shorter wait times and more personalized care. Private hospitals are recommended for serious medical emergencies and major surgery, as they are well-equipped and staffed with experienced medical professionals.

Insider Tips from Expats in Belarus: How to Navigate the Health System

"Belarus has a well-developed healthcare system, providing a wide range of medical services. The country has a network of hospitals, clinics, and medical centers that offer a variety of treatments and services, including general medical care, specialized care, and emergency services. Belarus also has a number of specialized medical centers that provide specialized treatments such as oncology, cardiology, and neurology. Additionally, Belarus has a number of private medical facilities that offer a range of services, including cosmetic surgery, dentistry, and alternative medicine," commented one member living in Belarus.

"Healthcare services in Belarus are provided by both public and private institutions. The public healthcare system is funded by the government and is available to all citizens and foreign residents. The quality of public healthcare is generally good, with a wide range of services available, including primary care, specialist care, and hospital services. Expats in Belarus can access the public healthcare system, although they may need to pay for some services. Expats can also use private healthcare services, which are often more expensive but may offer a higher quality of care," commented one member living in Belarus.
