Summary: Health Care in Medellin: Locate providers, hospitals, and medical centers to find the best health services available for expats and nomads.

Medellin has both public and private healthcare systems. The public healthcare system is called the Colombian Health System (Sistema de Salud Colombiano) and is available to all citizens and legal residents of Colombia. It is not available to foreigners, however, expats and digital nomads may be able to access it if they are legally registered in Colombia.

Colombia's Healthcare System

The public healthcare system in Colombia is free for citizens and legal residents. It is funded by the government and provides basic healthcare services. Public hospitals in Medellin are generally not recommended for serious medical emergencies or major surgery, as they are often overcrowded and understaffed. However, they are a good option for minor medical issues and routine check-ups. Private hospitals in Medellin are generally recommended for serious medical emergencies and major surgery, as they are better equipped and have more experienced staff. Expats and digital nomads are allowed to use the public healthcare system in Colombia, but most opt for private hospitals due to the better quality of care.
