"I've been living in Dongguan for a while now, and I can tell you that it's definitely possible to live comfortably on $1,500 a month, but you'll have to make some sacrifices. First, you'll need to find an affordable neighborhood to live in. I'd recommend looking into areas like Nancheng, Dongcheng, or Changping. These neighborhoods have a good mix of local and expat communities, and you can find decent apartments for around $300 to $500 a month. On the other hand, I'd avoid more expensive neighborhoods like Houjie or Dalang, as the cost of living there can be significantly higher. In terms of transportation, you can save money by using public transportation like buses and the metro, which are quite affordable and convenient. Owning a car can be quite expensive, so I'd recommend against it if you're trying to stick to your budget. When it comes to food, eating out at local Chinese restaurants can be quite cheap, and you can find meals for just a few dollars. However, if you prefer Western food or dining at fancier restaurants, the costs can add up quickly. I'd recommend cooking at home as much as possible and shopping at local markets for fresh produce and groceries. This can help you save a significant amount of money each month. For entertainment and socializing, there are plenty of free or low-cost activities you can enjoy, like visiting parks, hiking, or joining local clubs and groups. However, you might have to cut back on more expensive hobbies or outings, like frequent nights out at bars or clubs, as these can quickly eat into your budget.Overall, living on $1,500 a month in Dongguan is doable, but you'll need to be mindful of your spending and make some sacrifices in terms of housing, transportation, and entertainment. By choosing an affordable neighborhood, cooking at home, and enjoying low-cost activities, you can live comfortably while sticking to your budget," commented an expat living in Dongguang.

On the other hand, I'd avoid more expensive neighborhoods like Houjie or Changping, as the cost of living there can be significantly higher.Transportation is quite affordable in Dongguan, with buses and taxis being the most common modes of transport.
