Smith Street Arts et Lettres (the expansion of Smith Street Maternelle) is an independent, arts-based French-American school in Brooklyn that opened in September 2021. The French/English bilingual curriculum emphasizes a Reggio-Emilia inspired, holistic approach to education with artistic expression as the foundation of a child’s social emotional development.

We are designing a dynamic bilingual curriculum that blends the Montessori, Reggio-Emilia, and Developmental-Interaction approaches. The children will be active agents of their own learning, and the curriculum will be highly individualized according to each student’s needs. Creative expression will be an integrated part of the curriculum, and we will work closely with professional visiting artists to introduce music, fine arts, theater, cinema and dance.

The school admits both Francophone and Anglophone students and offers different language tracks (French and International) in order to accommodate more students. We will conduct language assessments to determine placement.

No
