About the School
American School Hong Kong (ASHK) is a non-profit, college preparatory international school offering a holistic American education taught by qualified North American teachers who inspire, motivate and challenge students to achieve excellence.
Academic Programs
ASHK provides a rigorous American and international education program. Our inquiry, STEAM focus, and concept-based approach to teaching and learning promotes the development of critical thinking. Concept-based learning is about big transferable ideas that transcend time, place, and situation. Concepts are a way to organize and make sense of learning. Content focuses primarily on facts while concepts focus on making sense of those facts and the world around us. Through this approach, students are empowered to become independent, self-actualized, critical thinking problem solvers.
Extracurriculars
Students have opportunities to participate in both competitive and/or non-competitive sporting events within the school and externally. Basketball, soccer, volleyball, and track & field, as well as other team sports, are offered. ASHK is also a member of International Schools Sports Federation Hong Kong.
A broad range of clubs are also offered at ASHK, including Student Council, Environment Club; Habitat for Humanity; Global Issues Network (GIN); UNICEF; Amnesty International, Model United Nations, School Yearbook, School Newspaper, Chinese Magazine Club, Chess Club, Culinary Club, Math Team, Digital Ambassadors, Photography Club, Tutor Club, Debate Team and Battle of the Books Team.
Bi-lingual Education
We have a Chinese program which provide different streams and pathways for students with different learning pace and needs.
IB Programs
Yes. Our KG to Grade 9 students are taught with a proven academic program based on the US Common Core, and leading to the IB Diploma in Grades 11 and 12.
Parent Involvement
Yes. Parents are involved in the school through American School Parents' Association (ASPA). A strong home-school partnership is essential for students to reach their full potential. ASHK promotes regular communication between parents and teachers, as well as parent volunteer programs. An active ASPA plays an important role at ASHK and is the main driver in building a cohesive school community.
