Getting in and out

Hi there, I'm just new to this forum and have a question about getting in and out of the Dominican Republic. I'm coming from Halifax, N.S., Canada and want to explore both the Caribbean and Mexico. My question: Is there air service or other service to other islands, cruise ships perhaps. Are there flights to and from Mexico, Aruba etc?
