3 years ago I was in Mendoza. Ever since I have been thinking about going back and to start something of my own.
I have no experience in for instance wine-producing, hostal-running etc. But I do have a lot of spirit, education in real estate from Norway, good common sense and will. And a little money, ca 100 000 USD. Am I naive thinking that will get me anywhere?
If I were to buy a property, It would probably be a small winyard and/or ranch, olive farm, and also be open for hostel/hotel-running on the ‘side’.
I have a millions questions, and probably the best question so far, I don’t know I should ask...
What are the obvious do’s and don’t’s? I have read up a little online, and found that obviously things dont work the same way as in Norway, and that I need to be careful.
I have been reading about "vineyard villages", like fincalosamigos.com Have anyone got any experience with this? I would be open living more or less fulltime on the location. Allthough I would need help with everything in the beginning. I guess the right connections are crucial. Would it be recommendable to for instance get a job at a vinery first, to get some experience, and polish my spanish? Or is it enough to get a proper team around one self?
Lets say I have 100 000 USD. If I move, I wouldnt have alot of money other than that, for living expences and such. Maintenance and so. Is it possible to start making a decent living from the get-go? Is it recommendable to buy a vineyrd thats already up and running, and making money?
Is it normal/usual/market for running a small B&B on the vineyard as well?
Any replies would be highly appreciated.
Best regards Katrine
