Advice: moving to Australia

Hi,
I'm seriously intentioned to move to Australia, and wour really hear from someone that has already don it.
I'm 28 years old, graduated in management/industrial engineering. I live in Milan, Italy.
Since I don't have a contract, I basically have 2 ideas:
1) try to find a stage from here (Italy) and, once in Australia, start looking for a sponsorship for a qualified job and thus, apply for a working visa
2) apply for a holiday working visa, find a temporary job in Oz and in the meanwhile look for a sponsorship.

Is there anyone that could tell me what he/she thinks of that? Is it feasible that way, or companies tend not to spend money to sponsor a foreign person? I'd like to know if I'd have any chance of finding a qualified job once there, because from here it's quite difficult!

Thank you very much for any help,
Lucas
