Hi Everyone
My husband and I will be closing on an adorable home in Eleuthera in the next month or so and we are trying to work out the legistics of shipping our household goods to the island.
We are aware of the cost of a 20' container from Miami or Ft lauderdale to the island and are aware of the steep taxes, but our problem is that we live in Maine.
We are faced with either shipping by rail or sea from Maine at triple the cost then just from Florida, or renting a moving truck, packing it, driving from maine to Fl. and loading a container ourselves (adding costs of travel/lodging/gas/food).
Does anyone have some insight here - perhaps folks that have shipped a container of goods from Northern ports or ANY ideas of how to make this easier?
We are prepared to do what has to be done, but is seems like there should be an easier way since so many have to or have had to do this.
Thank you and I really appriciate any input you may have that is helpful!
