Relocationg to Nassau Soon

Hello Everyone, I am so excited to have finally found a Group for Expats in the Bahamas. I just wish I would have found this sooner.
Nevertheless, me and my fiancee are planning to relocate to Nassau in the beginning of 2011, and I am a US Citizen (Florida)and he is a German Citizen. We plan to Marry at Sandles. I have tons of questions in regards to First: The port of Enrty with Immigration! I've read that US citizens can stay 8 months and German Citizens 3 months. But Im reading that they will most likely not allow you to stay that long. Whats the best things to say so that we can get a longer stay?

Should we get an apartment first, and pay the rent for that time frame, or should we just stay in a Hotel for a few weeks, and then try to locate a place. I just dont want to get there and have all these surprises.
