Too many choices (are these places safe?)

There are a ton of listings online for rentals. I'm just not sure I know which places would be a good fit for our family. We do need a garage if possible as we have surfboards, bikes, etc.

Nautica
Charlottesville
Treasure Cove
Sandyport - lots of research on Sandyport.

Please suggest places that are gated, and comfortable for a young child, two dogs, and a young couple. Husband will be commuting downtown.
