Hi there.
I and my husband have gone to the Bahamas and looked at great homes. We think we found our dream home on the east side of the island in a quiet gated community of eastern road. Now we're in the process of selling our home in the UK so we can purchase the very large, beautiful home viewed in nassau. We're so excited about relocating there in just a few short months... but I am sort of stuck.
A man once told us that living in the "right" community in Nassau was more important than the size of our house or having a nice pool. Indeed during my two trips to nassau to view homes, it became clear that the private communities was where everything was happening and people were meeting each other. My mom and some good friends live just nearby in Miami. However, I am still worried that hubby and I will be stuck on an island, isolated and lonely in a grand home on the east side, with no friends or family. We don't have children yet in our mid 30s... it's just us and two dogs.
With this in mind, should I really be looking for a place (condo even) in a community where we can meet people and be closer to shops, restaurants, other expat neighbors that maybe don't have kids? I think the east side is wonderful, but I want to give us the best chance to make some friends and become part of a thriving community as well. And what kind of communities should we be looking at? (budget is around 1m)
I welcome any advice on the situation.
