Safety Concerns/Toddler Activties

Possibly moving from Florida to the Bahamas (not sure where exactly yet) for my husbands Job on Grand Bahama. We would also be bringing our one year old son. I have some concerns regarding our safety when I am out by myself with my son. Is it safe to go on stroller walks, to the park, the library etc? Are there any stay at home moms on here that could recommend some toddler activities/playgroups on the island? Where do families with young children live? Looking for a family friendly neighborhood. Any other advice would be greatly appreciated. Having a hard time wrapping my head around this!
