Which island for NY family of educators?

My wife and I are considering a move to the Caribbean in the future. We are in the education and psychology fields, so pretty specialized. I'm trying to reach out, network and learn about the region's industries more to establish some connections. We'd be taking one or two daughters (if the older one doesn't stay in NY by that time). I haven't seen anything about how to decide where to live in The Bahamas. Maybe it just depends on where you get hired for work! Seems like Grand Bahama and Nassau are the two big ones, but not sure. Otherwise since we're from NY, we're considering PR or the USVI. Any suggestions?

And as far as cost of living and crime goes, we're from NYC. I think our expectations are fairly reasonable, though some people make the Caribbean islands all sound like slums and war zones. We want better work-life balance, time to slow down a bit and enjoy the outdoors (sun, water, etc.), family and friends.
