My family and I will be moving to Nassau this Fall for 3 years. We are weighing our options for a family vehicle.
I am looking for some feedback on these options from folks who live there – specifically, the cost and availability of maintenance/service. The hope is we would not have to purchase a new car on-island the entire time we are there. Due to the nature of our move we will not be paying the cost of shipping a car down nor will we be paying any kind of import taxes, etc. so that is all equal.
Options:
1. We bring our 2019 Ford Edge with 130,000 miles on it - it's in great shape (and we would have it looked at before we bring it down), and we would likely leave this car behind when we returned (sell or scrap, depending).
2. We bring our 2021 VW Tiguan with 40,000 miles on it - also in great shape (and would have it looked at before we bring it down) , and we would likely leave this car behind when we returned (sell or scrap, depending).
3. We purchase a new or low-mileage Toyota 4Runner (or something similar). Would plan to ship this car home after.
Is there service available and (comparatively) affordable for Fords, Volkswagons and/or Toyotas? Is there one option that stands out as best or, on the flip side, a really bad idea?
