How realistic & easy is it, truthfully, to live in Belize?

I like to get the lay of the land where ever I go - even here in the US, thus one place I've been thinking about is La Paz Mexico Big Sur California - thus getting to Belize, renting a car, driving around in search (after some home research) of chill but safe neighborhood to live in that is NOT resort'ish, nor mansion etc. just somewhere to 'fit it' , so my question is - is this possible to take a week like vaca but on the fact finding mission & meet up w/expats to chop it up about how/where to live in Belize? How feasible is this?

Safety is like anywhere /anytown - city USA and I'm not a knucklehead - but no one likes to get ripped off and I'm not talking mugging - I'm talking real estate agents, added 'hidden' fees/costs of this & that in paper work or gov't filing etc. How clean cut is it to purchase a home or even just starting up w/a rental unit? Is it like the US where it's one months deposit + month rent due etc. etc.?

What about vehicles aka bringing your own vehicle. ship it or is it worth driving it down along w/all your personal home merchandise? Is it like what I've heard about Mexico regarding you get '1' time in shipping everything you own but then that's it? or is that a bad rumor about Mexico a well?

How easy is it to open a bank account in Belize and what is the most main/trustworthy bank to do so?
