Connecting w/ the Belize Expat Community

Hello,
I'm a firefighter from Washington State who will retire in 16 months. I'm taking my first trip to Belize this month to begin exploring a possible move there. Is it easy to connect with expats in the region and would you recommend any specific means to do so? I'd love to make friends that would be a willing to share advice and their experiences.
