Cost of living (and drugs) in Belize

We recently spent 2 weeks on Ambergris and would never consider living in San Pedro, as it is too noisy and polluted. However, we hear that both Placencia and Dangriga are pleasant places we might like to consider.

I am also curious as to whether it makes more economic sense to rent or purchase in Belize

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can offer an objective comparison of the pros and cons of those two locations, as well as any others we have not yet considered (given that we know we want to live near the ocean), as well as anyone who can shed some light on the relative cost of drugs in Belize (since OHIP won't cover the cost of prescriptions filled outside the Province, and we both take some pretty expensive medications).
