MORE MARRIAGE QUESTIONS

Hi everyone. First of all, THANK YOU for all of your help in prompt and effective answers every time I use this site.

heres my query:
My fiance and I live in Cuiaba and were filling out official marriage documents today, but the people at the place where we filled themn out told us that I need an official document stating that I am single and that it has to come from the United States (where I'm from).

When we asked for more information on this document, the woman working at the site said it had to be "official" and "signed." When I mentioned that I was unaware of any such document exisiting in the US, she said that it would come from the same place where I received my birth certificate (the department of health)...then she said that it would come from a judge. When I asked to see what the document looked like, she showed me something from a country other than the US that was nothing more than a couple of paragraphs written in Spanish saying that the persons name had appeared on no marriage licenses--there was nothing "official" about it. When I asked to see an example of the required US document, she said that she had misplaced all of them.

Does anyone have any idea what this document is? how to get it? etc? etc? etc?

Later, the woman mentioned that I have to register this document with the Brazilian Embassy in DC.--can I have someone do this for me (for example, I used a service to get my visa for me)? or do I have to do it myself?

i have absolutely no clue on this one. any info is GREATLY appreciate!!

Thanks in advance.
