Recife/Olinda pre/during carnaval

Looking for cheap yet comfortable lodging in Olinda (or Recife) Feb. 26-Mar. 6 (pre-carnival until Carnival Monday) 2010.

I'll probably be going into the interior for a few days during that period (to investigate/play maracatu rural).

If you have any suggestions please let me know, thanks. My mom lives in Bahia and I'll be going there after (we're American), but I'm trying not to pay a million dollars to be in Recife at that time.
