US-bought TVs Work in Brazil?

I have heard that US TVs don't usually work or only show black and white with open channels (Globo, Band, etc.) using a simple antenna in Brazil unless you have cable TV.

But I have heard that if you get cable TV there's no problem (fully funcioning) and TVs bought in the USA work in Brazil under these conditions.

Does this jive with other people's experience? I was thinking of buying a 37inch LG LCD TV because I know LGs are sold in Brazil.

Any recommendations or advice is welcome. Has anyone bought a TV in the US and used it in Brazil? How did it work? Do they generally work with cable?

Thanks for any advice!

Jimmy
