How to apply for Permanent Visa in Brazil

Hello Again,

I wonder if I apply for my Permanent Visa once I arrive in Brazil, it will give me a work permit right away.

I'm still in NY and my wife is Brazilian. I know the process may be much easier from here, but the bureaucracy in the Brazilian consulate is driving me crazy. On top of that the FBI criminal background (which is a requirement to apply from here) got lost in the mail and I just can't wait two months more for that...

The total time here with FBI and Visa application is about five months, what about in Brazil (BH)...
