divorce, assets kid

Hi there, My father is 71 and lives in Brazil near to San Paulo.
His wife has just filed for a divorce and has asked for half of everything .
My father went into the marriage with a good amount of money and she had nothing. She has not working during their 17 years of marriage .
She stole $30,000 out of his business account about 4 months before she told him she wanted a divorce. He has no money as it's all tied up in property which he has not been able to sell due to the falling house market and recession..
She also told him she wants half of the house in Malta which he owned before he met her..
She has kicked him out of his own house under grounds that he shouts a lot ( he does ) but now he is alone and speaks no portuguese in Brazil and living in one of the properties that he owns there .. but it has only a mattress and no fridge or anything else .
He also has an 14 year old daughter with her and is worried she will be taken way from him ..
I'm trying to work out what the law is for custody of the child and work out what she is entitled to. I believe he offered her half the family house and said he would pay allamony but she wants half of everything .. I'm really at a loss of what to do. On top of all this her cousin is a lawyer and I know Brazil is very corrupt. I would hate to see my dad loose everything he has worked all his life for .. Any advice ? He is a british national and they got married In UK but moved to brazil about 9 years ago..

Thank you
