Absolute beginners

My wife and I are considering purchasing a house (up to around £25k) initially as somewhere to use as a holiday retreat (she's a teacher so gets long hols!) but if it all works out we will consider relocation from the UK.

Looking for somewhere not totally rural (strolling distance to a a bar / cafe and a shop or two perhaps?) and whilst we're keen to adapt to local ways and customs, some ex pat activity may be a comfort.

Don't mind a bit of 'tarting up' with decorating etc, but ideally ready to move in. Also not too far from the airport.

Any suggestions on where to look that ticks the boxes?
