Do I need travel Insurance?

I have been living in Canada on and off for the past two years on a Working Holiday Program, and living with my partner of 2 years. I am wondering if it is best to purchase travel insurance for the next twelve months that I will be there, or if i should be added to his health insurance his employer provides. I dont know what the best option is, and was wondering if anyone else had been in a similar situation and could help me out. I guess the obvious answer is "everyone needs travel insurance" but this is different when we are deemed common law or defacto partners. Would anyone know a name or a way to contact someone who may be able to assist me?
