visa dilemmas....help!

Hi, I 've been living in Vancouver since September on a working holiday visa. My visa expires in 2 weeks and I do not want to leave the country. My common lawpartner has applied for the federal skilled worker visa with me attached to it. Is it possible to apply for another work visa until that comes through or is it better to apply for a toursit visa. If tourist visa, what is the process for doing this. I did phone the immigration number here and an automated voice system informed me that I would pay $90 and apply by mail before the expiration date of my visa. The other option is to go to Seattle and get back in on a tourist visa as I am an Irish citizen, this is possible. Please any advice would be great. THank you.
