Canada Making it Tougher

Does anybody have any tips on how to navigate through the process to move to Canada? Whenever I look it seems like they are making it harder and harder. Went from a 2 page checklist in 2010 to almost 8 I think now. I have been saving up $$ for Proof of Funds and finally got most of it together but now they are asking for so much more! Letters of Reference from the last 10 years' of employers? I don't even want my current boss to know my plans!
