I'm American who'd planned to have already moved to Ottawa by now but grad studies have shifted to online. Optimistically hoping to be moved up by next semester should campus be open. Looking for advise and others' experiences for moving on a budget.
Currently in central Virginia area. Would like to drive not fly; approx 11 hrs away. Wondering things like should I purge all my furniture and buy there or bring the basics along via moving company? Are rental companies likely to take advantage of a young woman moving from abroad with no Canadian credit built up by asking for several months rent in advance? I found average rent for area, but what is a likely pet deposit for 2 cats? Or does Canada/Ottawa do monthly "pet rent" fees? What neighborhoods to avoid/favor? Should I import my car (2009 Nisan Altima) or is that ridiculously expensive? Is there a best time to move? Or best phone & utility companies & banks for students? Is there anything I'm not concerned about already that I should be?
ANY guidance or useful links would be graciously appreciated. Many thanks in advance.
