Transferring money to Chile from USA

I might be purchasing real estate in Chile soon, and I have some questions about transferring large amounts of money from the US to Chile.

I was told, first of all, that Chile is a slow-payer, meaning that the funds can take as much as 30 days to clear.

Also, I was told that I needed to have a bank account in Chile to do a transfer, although it near impossible for a foreigner to get one.

Can anyone recommend a safe and functional way to transfer money from the US to Chile?
