Best counties to live in Santiago

Hello! We are looking to move temporarily to Santiago early next year due to my dad's dementia condition which is getting rapidly worse. I haven't live in Santiago in 13 years & everything has changed so much, so I really have no idea of safest and best areas for families with small children.
We are looking into a possible purchase of a house. The areas we think might be good for us are Las Condes or Chicureo. We kind of get an idea of the perks of living in Las Condes, but I'm concern of the high prices and smog in the winter. Can anyone share experiences of living in Chicureo or Las Condes in terms of cost of living, traffic, quality of life, family activities, etc, etc. Thank you so much for any help!
