Driving South to find home

Greetings! My husband driving down south to look around to find a place we can call home.

A few things:

1. we love cold! We love snow and nature and quiet, safe, small towns or our in the country with friendly people for neighbors. A place we can fit in and participate and contribute to the community. Suggestions?

2. We would love to find a place for a month or two to "park' ourselves while we take day trips around to see where we want to settle. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Our starting date could be close to November 1st and we would be happy to find a quiet place with an awesome view for rent for the short term.

We don't have pets, are very responsible (have been AirBnB superhosts in the past as well as being innkeepers at several high-end New England Inns. We have been renters and landlords and know the value of having and being great tenants. We have always left wherever we lived in better shape than when we arrived.
