Dress for woman and child traveler in Xining, North west China

Ne How Ma and hello.

My daughter and I are going to Xining in North West China to visit family there. Her father is from a small village about three hours from Xining. I consider him to be Tibetan, and thus, our daughter Tibetan.

Is it safe and appropriate for us to dress in the local dress? How should we dress as we are traveling through Beijing?

It will be only my daughter and I, as we will meet up with her Ba Ba in Xining. Are there any precautions for us since we will have NO male escort?
