Hello!
I got the following message from a friend of mine, and I thought I will share it with the expats in China. (I myself am a former expat in Shanghai, China, where I worked as a nurse.)

Rough translation (I changed the text a little to meet this audience):
You won't be able to return home for Christmas this year? Would you like to receive parcels from your friends and family **outside of China**? But your **Chinese** address is too complicated to write? You can use the “Global Address Service”!
Website: http://sedamo.info/
The link to Baidu will give you a Chinese text. You can find more in the Wikipedia ;-) just search for “International address code”.
My tip 1: Ask your Chinese friend to enter your address and look-up the address code for you!
Tip 2: Don't forget that the Chinese customs office will inspect the parcels for raw food materials, such as nuts and seeds. Chocolate and cookies will be fine, though!
An address written in Chinese will accelerate the transportation in China, as the letter/parcel can bypass the international post office in Beijing. Following my experience (though few years ago), delivery time was shortened from 3~6 weeks when address was written in Pinyin down to 3~5 days(!!) with an address written in Chinese.
Don't forget: In two months is Christmas :-D
Greetings,
Liesl
