Moving to Medellin from Quito this year

Greetings all! I've been reading this forum for awhile and decided it's time to post some questions. I am retiring from the U.S. foreign service and going to settle in Medellin. I have a large house full of stuff here in Quito which the embassy will ship for me, but I will be responsible for the import duties and taxes (is it 30% accros the board?). I decided to sell my car here and get one in Colombia to avoid paying high import duty. How does one shop for a buy a used car in Medellin? I'm wondering what types of things I should sell here that I can replace for about the same price there (with good quality) and again not be subject to the duty? Any and all advice is welcome. Ideas on how to find a house to rent in the hills of Envigado within 15 minutes to the city? I'll be visiting again for a few days in May and happy to meet anyone willing to share their experiences. I've lived overseas for more than 20 years so the general concept is very familiar to me, but Colombia is pretty new, except for a couple of short visits. And fortunately my Spanish is not too bad. Thanks!! Jeannie
