Beware the Lomas

It had to happen; now it has and I am watching it from my balcony after waiting for my heart to calm down a bit from the atomic bomb that erupted half an hour ago.

A lorry lost control (brakes?) coming down the steep Loma Los Parra and crashed into all before it at the junction with Avenue El Poblado. Apparently, 13 other vehicles are involved including one taxi where they are still trying to extract the driver, and a car that was thrown into San Fernando Plaza.

I say it had to happen because the Medellin Lomas are steep, a good enough reason for vehicle owners to keep them well serviced, especially the brakes, but this is Colombia!!!! Preventive maintenance is something that happens elsewhere!!!

I stopped driving 3 years ago so I have made my contribution to Medellin’s safety, but much needs to be done. It is not only the brakes, etc., the same notion applies to accident insurance. The rule “Be careful in the streets” not only applies to children in Medellin, but to the adults as well.
