Illegal

Back in 2000 I was staying at a posada in El Valle (near Bahía Solano) when the generator quit. The owner said there was a German engineer in the village who could fix it but we'd have to wait till he was sober. He was illegal then and I don't know how many years he'd been there before my visit.. A few years ago I returned to the same posada and the owner told me Migracion had recently caught up with him (he'd been sapiado) and he was deported. Poor guy. What could he do in his home country after thirty or forty years in Colombia.. But his story points up the fact that one can get by for a long time illegally in remote parts or even big cities so long as you don't need a cedula for things like health care or a drivers license. Probably harder though with new technology.
