Is Petro not bowing to US demands?

To me, this is a tactic by a corrupt US administration to exert pressure upon a different government to get what it wants. What does the USA want from Colombia that it is not currently doing? Also I am in no way inferring Petro and son are innocent of these issues.

On the morning of this Saturday, July 29, the Attorney General's Office announced that they had arrested Nicolás Petro, the son of Colombian President Gustavo Petro, and Day Vásquez, his ex-wife , for the crimes of money laundering and illicit enrichment. The event became the first time that the son of a national president in office is arrested.

Through a statement, the judicial body reported that the capture of the current assemblyman from the department of Atlántico took place around 6:00 in the morning this Saturday , due to the process that is being carried out against him after the accusations of his ex-wife, Day Vásquez, for having received "dirty money" during the presidential campaign of his father, Gustavo Petro, and using it for his own benefit.
