Dijon Mustard Banned In Colombia

I had heard there were regulations in effect preventing the sale of Fish Sauce in Colombia due to its high sodium (salt) content. So in June I brought some back with me from the US while we were there for other reasons. What I did not realize is the ban extended to products like Dijon mustard or my bags would have been even fuller. It seems in November of 2020 Colombia’s Ministry of Health and Social Protection issued Resolution 2013 which went into effect November of 2022. I hope this doesn’t kill the seasonal import of spiral sliced bone in ham I bought last year at Price Smart or US style bacon. And I wonder if the low-sodium soy sauce is destined to disappear as well.

As much as I like living in Colombia I also like to bang around in the kitchen and finding work arounds like using Kefir when buttermilk is specified works for some stuff. Other times there is no good substitute. Colombia is something of a food Sahel that is heading towards becoming a food Sahara. Most of the time for me its que sera sera but damn this sucks.
