COP, Where next?

Where next? No, I am not referring to where to reside, but rather ¨Where to place your money¨ if you have any.

I have done my best to cope with maintaining a decent post-employment standard of living by spreading what assets I have over several forms of investment and currencies with a view to placing my eggs in several baskets and different locations. As a consequence, my investments are usually spread over the following currencies: US$, Euro, Pound Sterling and occasionally Canadian and Australian Dollar, and of course, the Colombian Peso..
I am no Warren Buffet, or Bill Gates and my transactions are not of the size to impact rates, but I have thought my strategy sound and afforded me a certain financial protection……till now!

Here are a few currency movements involving the Colombian Peso over the last year, and 2 years¨:

US$/COP, One year = (16.51%), Two years = (2.14%)
Euro/COP, One year = (16.02%), Two years = (6.25%
GBP/COP, One Year = (13.97%), Two Years 0 (8.91%)
Can$/COP, One Year = (17.22%), Two Years = (9.47%)
Aus$/COP, One year = (21.65%), Two Years = (10.77)
JPY/COP. One Year = (27.62%), Two Years = (24.29%)
India Rupee/COP, One Year = (18.10%), Two years = (12.24%)
Swiss Franc/COP, One Year = (11.36$), Two years = + 3.37%
China Yuan/COP, One Year = (20.83%), Two Years = (13.08%).
Difficult to not notice the common theme isn´t it?

So, how should one react in these circumstances….I don´t know, but I did sell off all my on hand US$ liquidity this week and I have put it to use in a local bank CDT paying 12%. Right, or wrong, I have, at least, brought over the funds I will need for the immediate future.
