Thread Moderation

Hi Everyone,

I'm just posting a quick response to all of the questions and complaints about the moderation on the Columbia forum.

Here is some guidance:

Stick to the original topic. When the conversation starts to stray it tends to get political and then personal. When that happens we will close the topic or delete it altogether.

We are aware that politics is relevant at times and affects your life abroad. We do our best to differentiate this from politics for politics sake. There is a lot of gray in this domain and we will never be perfect when it comes to this area. Again, when it gets personal or a topic evolves from politics that directly impact life abroad toward heated ideological debates we will close the topic.

Anything that is of an overtly sexual nature will not be approved or will be deleted. We don't want to be a dating site. General conversations about social lives, however, are welcome provided they're not veiled attempts to discuss more lurid topics.

We also get conversations about not being taken advantage of financially is an important topic. How it is discussed matters.

We have borderline decisions to make that are often not easy, and people taking potshots at our admin decisions will not be tolerated. Those topics/replies will be deleted in every instance.

As a side note, I several smaller sites like ours - for sports and other hobbies - and frankly many of those admins delete threads/replies and suspend/ban members FAR more often than we do here. I try to let you guys steer yourself back on course but when it gets to a point where we have to step in we will.

You guys have a lot of incredibly useful and interesting conversations and we appreciate your contributions. Please continue and I hope you'll share more about what it's like to live in Colombia - the people, the culture, the food, the music, the arts, entertainment and more. When people show up for practical matters you are very helpful, and we know they are also interested in reading about the fun and exciting aspects of expat life that makes it worth pursuing.

I hope this is helpful and again THANK YOU for your participation in Expat Exchange!
