I have lived in Colombia before. I stayed in Cali for 6 months in 2009-10. I stayed in Pereira (Dosquebradas) for 6 months in 2019-20. I got out just before the Pandemic lockdown made things crazy. I'm considering a return as my current relationship is breaking up. I scanned a few small house/townhomes in Dosquebradas and they still look very affordable. Last time I rented a brand new 3 bedroom house in a "conjunto" with security, gym, pool, sauna and an apartment tower. Without a cedula it was difficult, but I found an inmobilieria that took my 6 month rent in advance on my credit card. I think I got 2% cash back rewards on that. I liked the house because it was brand new and the complex wasn't full - not too crowded - and very affordable. I was paying $400 a month in 2019 and it looks like I can find them for $500 or less today which is great for my budget. Are there any gotchas like crime/taxes/Petro that have changed much since then? Are the women still friendly? I might even stay beyond 6 months because on my budget/assets the annual tax wouldn't be much. I like the general cafetera area near Pereira because it's a little cooler and gets a little more rain, but Medellin is bigger than I like. If there's another city you like I'm open to suggestions. I hope to see the Termales Santa Rosa De Cabal again, Is that area still peaceful? Any guerilla or kidnapping risk in the area? Is it safe to take the buses in that area like we did in 2019?
