We recently relocated from the United States with our 10-year-old son, who attended a prestigious private school in the Northeast, known for its high academic standards and strong athletic programs. Since moving to Medellín, we have tried two schools—The Columbus School and Theodoro Hertzl—but have found both to fall significantly below our expectations.
At Theodoro Hertzl, we were disappointed to find that the curriculum seems comparable to a kindergarten level in the United States, despite our son being placed in 5th grade. The Columbus School, while perhaps closer in structure to American education, has its own challenges, particularly with systems that are difficult to navigate and understand, making it challenging for us as parents to support our son’s academic progress effectively.
With these issues in mind, we would like to know if there is a school in Medellín with rigorous academics that aligns more closely with American private education. Additionally, if you are aware of families who have chosen to homeschool with a private teacher due to similar concerns, we would be very interested in learning more about this option. Specifically, we are keen to understand the process of hiring a highly educated teacher locally or nationally, one who can provide a challenging, high-quality education for our son.
