Driving In US - 2

I posted this question on the original Driving In US post on Thursday but my addition didn't cause the thread to move to the top of the list. As that meant it stayed far down I figured I'd start fresh and see if I can get some input. This is what I'd posted Thursday......

Since no one brought up the subject of International Drivers Permits in this thread I thought I'd ask. Those who have used their Colombian license to rent a car inside the US, have you been asked for this document/translation? My US license is about to expire and I have no way, really, to renew it in that state due to the requirements. I do have a Colombian license. I called Hertz and asked what would be required and was told that for them, Dollar and Thrifty I'd need Colombian license, passport and an International Drivers Permit. Just wondering about others experience. Thanks.
