Safety question

Anyone have any information on the current state of safety specifically in Pijao and then driving south to Cali? A little background my wife is Colombian and we have family in Armenia. We visit frequently, however my gringo parents are flying to Armenia for their first trip to Colombia. We’ll spend most of our trip throughout Quindio. The last 2 days we are planning to visit Pijao spend a night in Buenavista then drive to Cali for the day. There were some “issues” in Pijao when we visited last year and issues on the road to Cali specifically around Buga. I just want to make sure it’s a good idea before I take my parents who speak no Spanish and their first time in the country.
