New Yorker leaving comfort zone for Costa Rica!

I fell in love with Costa Rica after my first trip there in April. Have been back already in June and again coming in August. Want to leave the madness of NYC and am hoping to relocate mid-next year. Haven't yet found the area that feels like my new home (thought it would be Tamarindo but it was too much like Venice Beach -- did i not explore it enough?). Any suggestions on where to check out to potentially live would be appreciated -- where there might be a small ex-pat community, but not too many gringos, and that's safe for single female.

I am a Pilates teacher, Shiatsu massage therapist and Kundalini yoga teacher. Also have done PR and marketing for 20 years and can write. Am hoping to find a nice location to live where I could teacher either privately or to classes. Any idea what areas might be good for this sort of work -- areas with either retreats or a bit of ex-pat money? Are there any natural food stores in the country? Acupuncturists or natural healers? Anyone ever run across an African dance teacher?

Also, most days am very excited about the idea of moving, but some days sheer terror and the question of my sanity take over. A million questions so anyone open to sharing their transition experiences would me would be great.

Do you lease, rent or buy a car upon arriving?

Thanks much
