My wife and I are considering retirement in Costa Rica. My wife is of Mexican heritage and is fluently bi-lingual. I am rapidly becoming bi-lingual. We are both in our 60's and will have retirement income sufficient to meet Costa Rican requirements. We have no compunction about applying for dual citizenship status. Our thought is to rent an apartment for a couple of weeks and live like a Tico. Seems like a good way to actually experience daily life. What are the requirements for qualification under the governmental health insurance program? We are both in good health (I am 67 and she is 60) but I would be uncomfortable living away from the US without some adequste health insurance program. Regarding where to look for an apartment, what would others of you suggest as being a good area? I am interested in starting a dialogue with other expatriots in Costa Rica--particularly folks who are not selling something who would possibly have an agenda focused on providing less than objective points of view.
I appreciate any truthful input. thanks!
