Questions for an expat living on Caribbean side

Is there anyone on the forum who lives in one of the beach towns in Limon province who could answer my questions? I want to base my first exploratory trip there and stay for 3-6 months. I've looked at descriptions and photos of all the hotels, hostels, and rental homes in Cahuita and Puerto Viejo that I can find. Few of them have air conditioning, and most appear to have no windows or even screens. So here are my questions: 1. How do they keep out mosquitoes, snakes, monkeys, birds, and all the other wonderful wildlife that I'd like to see OUTSIDE my doors? I don't think shutters would be enough. 2. Is it really not as hot and humid as most people think in that area? Can one really live comfortably without AC? I've studied hundreds of photos and videos taken in Limon province and I don't see a single person sweating! I do like my AC here in my hot and humid Georgia home. But I actually like the heat while I'm scuba diving, kayaking, swimming, and walking on the beach, which will be my main activities. But when I come back from a hike in the jungle, or when I'm cooking & doing housework, I do like my AC. 3. Does anyone know of a source for finding rental homes on the Caribbean side? 4. Is there an internet source for daily weather and temperature in Limon province? I can't locate one. Thanks for any info you might supply.
