It is very interesting to find that so often a negative slant is put on positive happenings. Of course I understand that we all wish the US did not relegate it's super power status to China and I don't believe the transition is complete but with the way things are going I doubt the tide can be reversed. That being said---what is result for us here in Costa Rica? Good or Bad? Well, my subjective opinion is that when you have an obsolete refinery being replaced by a modern clean facility--that is a GOOD thing. Certainly not something to be pointed to as a "fact" that Costa Rica is not environmentally friendly! Sure we all would like to see cars running on hydrogen or something like that but since that is not the case a nice clean refinery is about the best we can do. Do you drive route 32??? I do every day and although it is 100% better than it was 10 years ago the issue now is with the booming economy and the number of trucks on this road. So the expansion to 4 lanes from 2 will result in easier going--a shorter trip to the beach--a shorter trip to San Jose and the airport-- GOOD things! A new police academy in Pococi--a GOOD thing. Now, I do understand the concerns that having China involved may result in our being beholden to them. Let's not forget that as laid back as Costa Rica is they have shown through the years that they have been able to accept help yet not give away the store, so lets hope that this history repeats itself. Change always bothers people, that is natural, but as we all know the only thing we can expect is change so I for one am glad to see some change that will make my daily life more pleasant and this country cleaner.
